Who might make history next.
If the Journal documents people who are already making history, the Fellowship develops the people who may make it next. It is a working programme, not a course.
01 / Who it is for
People ready to turn potential into contribution.
Not "young leaders". That phrase belongs to a thousand programmes and it describes nobody.
This is for the person who is already doing something, who can see the next thing clearly enough to be frustrated by it, and who is missing capability rather than ambition. A person who has started a business that is not yet working. A researcher whose question is bigger than their department. A teacher, an engineer, a clinician, an organiser, a builder of something that does not exist yet.
Age is not the criterion. Where you are in the work is the criterion, and people arrive there at very different ages.
You do not need capital, a degree from a particular place, a title, or anybody's permission. You need something real that you are trying to do, and the willingness to be assessed honestly on how ready you are to do it.
02 / The five levels
The ladder describes readiness, not seniority.
Everybody is placed on it honestly at the start, and the honest placement is usually lower than people expect. That is not a judgement on a person. It is the only way a programme can be useful rather than flattering.
Clarity
You can say what problem you are actually working on, in one sentence, without describing yourself. Most people cannot, and until you can, everything downstream is guesswork. At this level the work is on the question, not the answer.
Capability
You can do the thing, not only explain it. There is a skill underneath the ambition and it is yours. This is the level most commonly skipped, and skipping it is why so much promising work stalls in its second year.
Evidence
Something exists that would not exist without you. Small is fine. Real is not optional. At this level a person stops being somebody with potential and becomes somebody with a record.
Consequence
It works when you are not in the room. Other people can run it, improve it, and disagree with you about it. This is the level where personal talent turns into something that can outlast you, and it usually requires giving up control that felt essential.
Stewardship
You are deliberately building people and structures beyond yourself, and you are measured on what continues after you leave. Very few people on this continent are operating here. Producing more of them is the entire purpose of this institution.
03 / The scorecard
You can see exactly what is being assessed.
Six dimensions, scored at entry and again at the end, by more than one assessor. Fellows receive their own scorecard in full, including the parts that are uncomfortable. Nothing is scored that is not published here.
Judgement
Can you tell the difference between a real constraint and an assumed one? Do you change your mind when the evidence changes, and can you show an example?
Agency
Do you act without waiting to be given permission, and do you take responsibility for what follows? This is the single strongest predictor in the whole scorecard.
Execution
Do things you start get finished? Not perfectly. Finished. There is a large gap between people who plan and people who ship, and it is visible from outside.
Ethical judgement
What do you do when the right choice costs you something? Assessed through decisions already made, not through what a person says they would do.
Collaboration
Can you build with people who are not like you, from another country, another discipline, another politics? Almost nothing that matters on this continent gets built alone.
Stewardship
Are you building something beyond yourself, or a monument to yourself? Do other people grow around you, and can you name them?
04 / The Community Backing Score
The people who have worked with you know things about you that no interview will ever find.
Every selection process in this field has the same weakness. It rewards the person who is best at being assessed. Confident, articulate, well-prepared, comfortable in a room with people who hold power. Those are real skills, and they correlate weakly with whether somebody can actually build something.
The Community Backing Score is the correction. Applicants name people who have worked with them, relied on them, or been affected by their work. Those people are asked specific questions, and their own name is attached to the answer.
05 / What the Fellowship actually does
A development laboratory, not a lecture series.
There are thousands of programmes teaching communication, personal branding and leadership styles. This one asks a different question, so it does different things.
An honest placement
Assessment on the six dimensions, the Community Backing Score, and a placement on the ladder. Delivered in person, in full, including the parts that are difficult to hear. Nobody is developed by being flattered.
Work on the actual thing
Fellows bring the real problem they are working on. The programme is built around moving that specific thing forward, because capability learned on a case study does not transfer.
Access to people who have already done it
The people documented in the Journal and the record are the same people the Fellowship brings into the room. That is the point of running both under one institution: the study feeds the development directly.
A cohort that will still be useful in twenty years
Deliberately mixed. Different countries, different sectors, different languages. The relationships are the part of a programme like this that compounds, and homogeneous cohorts produce weak ones.
A record of your own
What a fellow works through is documented with their permission, and becomes part of what this institution learns about how capability is actually built. Fellows own their own material.
06 / Applying
Applications for the first cohort open shortly. Tell us now and you will be told first.
This is not the application. It is a short registration so that we know who is waiting, and so that dates, costs and the full application reach you the day they exist. Everything you write here is read by a person.
